Stray Kids, US 'Billboard 200' 6th No. 1... Creates New History

Stray Kids has made history by taking first place on Billboard's "Billboard 200" for the sixth time.



According to a preview article released by Billboard on the 22nd (local time), Stray Kids' album SKZHOP HIPTAPE "合 (HOP)" released on December 13th sold approximately 187,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, topping the "Billboard 200" as of December 28th, their sixth time at number one on the chart.

Stray Kids is the first artist in the 69 years since the chart began in March 1956 to have six consecutive albums enter the top spot. Stray Kids also became the group with the most number one hits on the Billboard 200 in the 2000s with this record, tying with BTS, Linkin Park, and Dave Matthews Band.



They first took first place on the chart in 2022 with their mini-album "ODDINARY." This is the third time for a K-pop artist following BTS and SuperM, and the second time for a single artist. This was followed by their fifth no. 1 with the mini-album "MAXIDENT" in the same year, their third full-length album "★★★★★ (5-STAR)" in 2023, their mini-album "樂-STAR" (Rockstar), and their mini-album "ATE" in 2024, making them the first group in Billboard history and among global artists, following famous American rapper DMX.



In December 2024, six years after their debut and two years after debuting on the 'Billboard 200' chart, Stray Kids achieved the feat of 'entering the chart at no. 1 for six consecutive times' with their new work '合 (HOP)'. SKZHOP HIPTAPE, which contains Stray Kids' new attempt, is an album that presents 'a new genre unique to SKZ' with an officially undefined new genre. The first of these, '合 (HOP)', which has topped the 'Billboard 200' for six consecutive times, is a combination of the harmony completed by the eight members of Stray Kids and the English name of the hip-hop genre, 'HOP', to convey an ambiguous meaning. The title song 'Walkin On Water' is a song that compares confidence toward the stage to walking on water and playing with the rough flow of the water.



The album topped the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart on the 13th, 14th, and 16th, the day of its release, and ranked first on the iTunes Top Album Charts in 28 regions overseas, including Japan and Brazil, as of the morning of the 16th. 'Walkin On Water' also ranked first on the iTunes Top Song Charts in 25 regions overseas, including Mexico and Chile, based on the same period of time, and the music video ranked first on YouTube Music Video Trending Worldwide for five days as of the morning of the 17th, and on the YouTube Popular Rising Videos rankings in 43 regions around the world, including the US, UK, and Canada.



Stray Kids, who have repeatedly made history in the global music market and stood tall as a 'global top artist', have recently achieved several favorable results on Billboard and once again proven their powerful influence. At the '2024 Billboard Music Awards' held on the 12th, they won the Top Global K-Pop Artist category, raising their status by becoming the winner and performer of the 'Billboard Music Awards', one of the three major American pop music award ceremonies, for the second consecutive year.
